The European Commission is currently supporting the creation of a network of cybersecurity centres within the European Union. This initiative aims to improve and strengthen the EU’s cybersecurity and cyber protection capabilities. The project, which should be launched next year, is intended as a “European cyber shield” and Brussels plans to spend 1.1 billion euros (25.7 billion crowns) on it from the European digitization subsidy program.
This network of cybersecurity centres will serve as a platform for information exchange, cooperation and coordination between EU Member States. It will support the prevention, detection and response to cyber-attacks, both at national level and at EU level as a whole.
Cyber exercise and training centres will also be an important part of this network to help improve the skills and preparedness of cybersecurity professionals. These centres will offer cyberattack simulations and exercises to help better understand and respond to threats.
The European Commission has also created the European Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA), which will play an important role in coordinating and supporting this network of cybersecurity hubs.
The creation of this network aims to increase the resilience and security of digital infrastructure in the EU and to protect citizens, businesses and institutions from cyber threats.
